Vocaboodie helps you turn the books you read into vocabulary you remember. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
We only collect what we need to run the app.
- Account information. Your email address, the first name you choose, and (if you sign in with Google) the basic profile information Google shares with us.
- Photos you capture. Pictures of book pages you take inside Vocaboodie so we can detect the words you highlighted.
- Your learning content. The words, translations, example sentences, decks, and review history you build up while using the app.
- Usage and analytics. Anonymous information about how the app is used (pages visited, buttons pressed, crashes) so we can fix bugs and improve features.
- Payment data for Premium. When you subscribe, our payment processor handles your card details directly. We never see or store full card numbers, we only receive a confirmation that the subscription is active.
How we use your data
- To detect highlighted words in the photos you upload.
- To translate words into your chosen language and generate example sentences.
- To schedule your reviews using a smart review schedule.
- To show ads to free-tier users, helping us keep the free plan free.
- To send important account messages (password resets, receipts, service updates).
- To prevent abuse, fraud, and keep the service safe.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited information with trusted processors that help us run Vocaboodie:
- Hosting and database providers that store your account and decks.
- Image and translation providers that process the photos and words you capture.
- Payment processor that handles Premium subscriptions.
- Advertising partners that serve ads to free-tier users.
- Analytics providers that give us aggregate usage stats.
Each processor is bound by a contract that limits how they can use the data we send them.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure how the app is used. You can clear these any time from your browser settings. Disabling them may sign you out or affect how the app behaves.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account and learning content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we need to keep limited records (for example, invoices) to meet legal or accounting obligations.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Export your decks and saved words.
- Correct information that is wrong.
- Delete your account and the data linked to it.
To make any of these requests, email privacy@vocaboodie.com.
Children
Vocaboodie is not designed for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Vocaboodie runs on global infrastructure, so your data may be processed in countries outside the one you live in. When that happens, we rely on standard contractual clauses and reputable providers to keep your data protected.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we will update the date at the top and, when appropriate, notify you by email or inside the app.
